The safari starts on the farm with a cow, a rooster, a horse and a sheep. Then it heads into the jungle for a lion, an elephant, a monkey and a snake, and ends by the pond and in the trees with a frog, an owl, a duck and a parrot.

A book that grows with your child

How to play with animal flashcards

Make the sound before you say the name, and let your child fill in the gap: “The lion says...” Then wait. Most toddlers can't resist a roar. Act the animals out, too: flap like a duck, stomp like an elephant, hop like a frog.

After reading, look for the same animals in real life, in picture books, on a farm visit or at the zoo. Seeing the animal on the page and then out in the world is what makes the name stick.
